Saint Morand, apostle and patron of the Sundgau and of the town of Altkirch, who lived in the middle of the eleventh century and performed many signs and miracles, had one day left his monastery bareheaded, as was his custom, and gone to the neighboring village of Walheim to celebrate Mass and carry out other religious offices there. But on his way back, a violent storm caught him and forced him to take shelter beneath a rock jutting out over the path, so that he might at least protect his uncovered head from the tempest. And behold, “like soft wax, the hard stone yielded to his head, forming a hollow that provided him with a safe shelter against the fury of the storm.”
