In the three castles of Rappoltstein there once lived three sisters, each in one of the castles. Every night they called their farewells to one another with a hunting horn, and in the same way they greeted each other every morning.

One of them is said always to have worn splendid clothes and to have been very vain. She is still often seen in the uppermost castle — Hoh-Rappoltstein, today Haut-Ribeaupierre — standing before a great mirror hanging on the wall, adorning herself as though for a feast.
