In Manternach there once lived a man who was reputed to understand secret arts. One day he was sitting in front of his house when someone passed by with a wagon.

Suddenly the wagon stopped. They urged on the horses, they pushed at the wagon, but all in vain. Then one of the men cried:
“Wait, I’ll help!”
and struck the spokes of one of the wheels with a stick. And look—the wagon moved on again.

But the sorcerer sitting in the doorway began to whimper and cry:
“Oh, my leg, oh, my leg, it’s almost smashed in two!”

Reported by schoolmaster Oswald of Manternach.
