Near St. Georgen, behind the “Bädli”, stands the “Black House”. During the time of the plague, the sick are said to have been isolated there.
Oral tradition.
Popular tradition, which usually prefers to add rather than take away, seems in this case to have lost something essential along the way. We often encounter the legend that, in one place or another, the plague raged so fiercely that a hazel or elder branch pushed in through a window immediately turned black. This is surely how the house received its name: the disease itself is said to have turned it black.
