Some years ago, a woman from Walbach, in the Munster valley, wished to go on pilgrimage in fulfillment of a vow. She awoke in the middle of the night, but mistook the bright light cast by the moon through the windows for daylight, so she rose and made herself ready for the journey. Although she soon realized her mistake, she set out on her pilgrimage all the same, since she was already dressed.

When she came near Pflixbourg Castle, lying on the opposite side of the valley, she heard a soft woman’s voice singing in the forest, and soon afterward saw a lady dressed in white descending the mountain. The figure came right up to the edge of the wood where the path runs, then turned back and climbed up again toward the castle, weeping loudly.
