Emperor Frederick Barbarossa, who is said to have built the castle of Kaysersberg, also began the construction of the town church. But when his money ran out in the middle of the work, he resolved to pawn his wife’s crown.

This pious decision moved Heaven: at once two angels appeared, each carrying a full purse, to redeem the empress’s crown and help the building of the church go forward.
