Not very long ago, so the tale says, a woman who had died in childbed was buried at Ingersheim without shoes having been placed in her grave, as was customarily done. I must walk through thistles and thorns and over sharp stones.” So her husband set a pair of shoes outside the door for her, and for six weeks the spirit came back every night to nurse the infant.
